The Growth Cycle: Why After Difficulty Comes Ease

Understanding life’s natural rhythm of challenge and growth in leadership and life.

“After difficulty comes ease.”

It’s a phrase we often hear in spiritual teachings, motivational talks, and even in our own self-encouragement during tough seasons. But how often do we embrace the full cycle? The one that says after ease, difficulty may return. Not as a setback, but as an opportunity for deeper growth.

As I reflect on the last year, both personally and professionally, this truth has never felt more real. We’ve all endured some form of struggle. Leadership fatigue. Financial uncertainty. Personal loss. Delayed dreams. And yet, here we are. Standing. Growing. Moving forward.

Change is Inevitable. So is Growth.

Change doesn’t ask for our permission. It arrives uninvited, shakes our routines, and forces us to confront what’s no longer serving us. While our instinct might be to resist, real transformation begins when we lean into the discomfort.

The truth is, change is not always bad. It’s just unfamiliar.

We often mistake discomfort for danger. In reality, it’s often an indicator of stretching, shedding, and evolving. Whether it’s a team dynamic that’s shifting, a new contract that didn’t come through, or a life event that shakes your stability, these moments challenge us to build new muscles. Resilience. Wisdom. Emotional agility.

Embracing the Cycle of Change

In leadership, we crave certainty. We plan. We strategize. We execute. But no spreadsheet or KPI can shield us from the human experience of growth. Leaders are tested not when things go smoothly, but in moments of tension, ambiguity, and pressure.

If you’ve felt like 2025 has already thrown a few curveballs, you’re not alone. And if you’re still waiting on the results, the revenue, the recognition, know this. You are not behind. You are becoming.

Each challenge that arrives is not just an obstacle. It’s also a mirror and a teacher. It shows us where we’ve grown and where we still need work. But when we take the time to pause, reflect, and rise, we become more prepared for what’s ahead. Not with fear, but with faith.

What Comes After Ease?

Ease isn’t the finish line—it’s a pause to breathe and prepare. Growth moves in cycles: struggle, surrender, strength; ease, expansion, evolution—then repeat.

Each round makes you stronger, wiser, and more intentional.

If you’re in a hard season, hold on—ease is coming. If you’re in ease, get ready—the next challenge isn’t punishment, it’s growth.

Let’s stop resisting the rhythm. Let’s start dancing with it.
